Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 584 is a Non-Profit Veterans organization that assists and provides services to local Veterans.
By the year 1960, then under the command of Jim L. Kelly, the Post finally had a standing building. It was a small old church relocated from Adair Village to its current location at 1469 Timber St in Albany, Oregon.
Since then, the building has been reconstructed and added on to where in the 1970’s Canteen wing was added and then again in 1978 the addition to extend a larger dining area and kitchen for Veteran events was built on.
In 2019 the newest generation of the nation’s defenders and auxiliary advocates started even more additions of a game room addition, reconstructed kids’ room with play structure, dining room, and canteen as the building sits today.
The Post celebrated its centennial on January 5th, 2021, but was delayed due to the global pandemic of COVID-19. The Post hopes to celebrate it fully On September 11th 2021.
VFW Post 584 is highly dedicated to the missions the National VFW puts forth in the Voice of Democracy, Patriot Pen, and all the Veteran outreach programs the VFW offers today. Along with the help of the Auxiliary and the PUP tent for the Cooties, the Post continues daily hospital care and veteran outreach within the community.
Since the beginning of the charter, the Post has had 87 great Commanders in office that have continued not only the great works of The Veterans of Foreign Wars on the national, state, and district levels, but also in their local communities. The Post looks forward to the next 100 years.
